And so it begins…
Tonight I have had to tell both my mother and my sister that I will no longer be maintaining contact with them while ever my sister’s current boyfriend is in their lives. I have done that which I, on any other occasion, would have refused to do - I have forced people I love to choose between me and someone else. This decision wasn’t made lightly.
On one side, we have emotional abuse this man is putting my sister through. On the other side, I have the man issuing me death threats as a result of being told an old family secret which has long passed and been paid for. This man is extremely emotionally and mentally damaged, and I personally feel that given the opportunity he would not hesitate to carry out those threats. My sister is, as a result of this emotional abuse, chronically depressed, and as such is refusing to accept any help from either myself or our mother under pain of self-harm. There is nothing we can do for her.
This man has walked into our family and split it in two. I fear for my sister, I fear for my mother, and I fear for myself. I cannot do anything to solve this issue, and as much as I hate to do it, I have placed responsibility on my mother. It will now be her choice whether she decides to allow this man to keep doing what he is doing and lose me, her son, or whether she decides to intervene on my sisters relationship for the sake of the family. It pains me to say this so bluntly, but it was her choice to allow the situation to evolve into this without intervening, and as such it must be her choice that resolves the situation.
I can only hope and pray that everyone comes out of this alive and well.
